Of Love or Lust

Sometimes the line is fine between love and lust.

Love is fair, and lust, unjust.

Once we give in to that sinful bliss,

Gluttony asks for one more kiss.

A kiss of lust or a kiss of love?

Lucifer's kiss, or from God above?

Sometimes obsessions take complete control.

Lust is craving and love is whole.

We succumb to the hunger we cannot trust

the second we taste that which we lust.

Unfortunately, we have one more selection this week...

A few days ago, some of the members of the Well Fed Principles community lost a dear friend. Oliver Hertzel took his own life at the age of 18 while attending the University of Pittsburgh. He was a great wrestler at Council Rock High School North, and I personally knew him for 10 years. I know I always liked him, just like everyone else. Oliver was a great guy with a big heart and an even bigger smile. He will be dearly missed, and I emphasize to all of the readers once again: take care of each other.

Services for Oliver are being privately held by the Hertzel family.

Submissions for 10/24/08

Greetings! Well, the site is less than a week old, and we've already seen a lot of interest grow and spread. I think the Facebook group has about 180 members, last time I checked. If you want to check out the Facebook group, you can see it here.

Congratulations to the first artists to be displayed on Well Fed Principles! Remember, if you don't see your work, don't be discouraged. Keep sending stuff, because it's always always ALWAYS welcome. Also, we might use your already-submitted work at a later date. So congrats, and I hope everyone enjoys their work. Make sure to leave comments!

This summer I went out to Missouri to help my grandparents move out of
the house they've been living in for over 40 years. One of the most
striking things about it was the front door. The colors, the pattern,
the size, the sound it made when you opened it. I had to take some
pictures of it before I closed it for good, and I'm happy with the way
they came out.

Words That Taste Like Strawberries

Snapping my gum,
tasting each burst
of strawberry,
Tapping my glossy red nails
against my chem notes,
Twirling my cheap, blue
Papermate pen,
I cannot keep my mind
on calculations of heat and energy,
And though my flow
of thoughts and words
is repeatedly interrupted
with useless numbers and measurements,
I still manage
to drift away,
Away from this constricting desk,

Thanks to all of the artists who contributed this week. Next week we'll see some from Melissa Reynolds and Kelsi Wilson, so make sure to check back, and most of all, KEEP SUBMITTING! I was so happy to have a big inbox full of submissions, and i loved reading everyone's work and seeing everyone's photos. Also, sorry for the late post. Had to stay after acting class with my partner for a bit.

One more thing for this week...


This past weekend, and dearly loved friend of ours passed away. Spencer Barnett had a lifetime struggle with heart problems, which eventually took his life at the too-young age of 21. He was a fantastic actor, a fantastic artist, and a great guy who could always make us laugh. His wit was dry and precise, never missing a beat. I will miss his smile, his laugh, his style, and his beautiful soul that always made me excited to see him. Here are some photos of him, and I'd like to dedicate the very first post of this artist's forum to him. I think he would have been a contributor, so this one's for Spencer.





If you knew Spencer, and would like to attend his memorial service, it will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, somewhere around Newtown, PA. More information to come on this.

How This Site Will Work

102 members in less than a few hours. Incredible. It's very nice to see so many people who are so excited about the prospect of this website. I'd like to clear up a few things however, just so that we're all clear on things.

1. This blog is very low-tech. You have to understand that I conceived and created the website on October 20th, 2008. Aka, yesterday morning after acting class. so some of your questions are unanswerable at this current juncture, but i promise I will work very hard to answer all your questions. Feel free to e-mail the site, but i can't guarantee that you will receive the answer you're looking for.

2. Let's talk about copyright protection. As for copyrights, I don't have any clue about anything in that realm. So far, this site is just a place where me and some fellow admins will be picking our favorite selections and posting them up for the world to see. We will give all credit to people who want to be given credit, and i can 100% guarantee that your work will never be tampered with by me or any other admin. As for other people stealing your work, if you don't feel safe losing it, don't send it to us. that's just for now though. I'm going to be looking more into these issues, because I am imagining this to be bigger than i originally conceived. As for now, this place is a fun place to be ourselves. Don't give me the novel you want to publish later, because chances are it could get stolen.

3. Here is my plan as of now:

All week we will collect submissions and log them on my computer and in the e-mail account. On Friday, at approx. 10 AM, the pieces that were chosen by the group of admins for that week will go up. If this becomes boring or static, we will do two a week. If we don't get enough submissions, we might skip a week. It's kind of all up in the air right now. the best way to keep this site exciting is to constantly be working to get new art onto the site, be it writing like a maniac or taking 100 pictures a day. As of now, however, on friday at 10 AM, the submissions from this week will be posted. As for your personal photos, feel free to post them on the photo section of the facebook group, but if you want them to be considered for the actual site, you MUST e-mail wellfedprinciples@yahoo.co

m with your pictures. It's only fair.

Also, If your submission doesn't make it one week, that doesn't mean we hate it or that we aren't considering it. It just might mean that we will save it for another week. We'll try to incorporate themes or contests if the vibe gets to be lame.

Spencer's death was untimely, and I would like to commemorate it in some way, and i think this would be a nice memorial to him

More Information on Submitting Work

Less than one day and we're already dealing with formalities! This is a good sign.

Let me be a little more specific in exactly how to go about submitting works properly.

TEXT PIECES

It is preferable if you send it in an attached word document, but if you wish, you may copy and paste the text straight into the e-mail. HOWEVER, if you choose to do this, be aware that the alignment of your text may be different than you originally conceived. this is especially important for poets. to avoid this issue altogether, attach it in a word document, from which point it will be uploaded onto the site. If you choose to have the text copied and pasted into the text box on your e-mail, that means that you are consenting to that formatting and that will be how it appears on the site.

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

1. A name (real, fake, whatever you want)
2. Your location (town, state, whatever you wish)
3. Contact information if you wish.

The goal of Well Fed Principles is to get some new ideas and thoughts out into the wild, while simultaneously reconsidering old ideas and old ways of thinking.

Well Fed Principles is a blog devoted to the writing of articles, as well as the posting of pictures, films, and all other types of media. Well Fed Principles aims to be a collective, with all different types of artists contributing to the site.

Well Fed Principles will be a watering hole for the transitional generation (a.k.a. the generation that grew up during the turn of the millennium). There is no age limit for this collective, but the aim of each artist should be to inspire, excite, motivate, entertain, and/or teach the generation that will soon be running the world.

Don't take this site 100% seriously. Well Fed Principles doesn't want to be some haven for the pompous, arrogant subcultures of today, but rather a place where all people can gather to appreciate the funny, sad, dramatic, etc.

HOW TO BECOME A PART OF WELL FED PRINCIPLES

It's very simple!

To be posted on the site, all you have to do is e-mail wellfedprinciples@yahoo.com

Please include in an attached file the piece that you are trying to have posted on the site. This could be a picture, a word document, a movie, whatever. Well Fed Principles' opinon on plagarism is as follows:

IF YOU STEAL SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK, YOU ARE AN UNORIGINAL JOKE OF AN ARTIST. IF IT BECOMES KNOWN THAT A PIECE OR ART WAS STOLEN FROM ANOTHER ARTIST, OR THAT AN ARTIST WAS NOT CREDITED FOR A PARTICULAR PIECE, YOU WILL BE FOREVER BANNED FROM THE SITE AND ALL MENTION OF YOU ON THE SITE WILL BE ERASED AND FORGOTTEN. THIS IS A NO-TOLERANCE POLICY.

If you would like to become an administrator at Well Fed Principles, you will have to send a separate e-mail explaining why you would be a good member of the team. It doesn't have to be long; a paragraph will do. Administrators will be in control of what gets put on the site, as well as having more freedom in posting their own material.

Well Fed Principles can NOT guarantee that anything you e-mail us will be posted. Feel free to e-mail us anything, but be aware that there's a chance it might not get posted. We have our reasons to reject entries, but don't let that distract you from making some excellent art. Don't be afraid to use coarse language or imply suggestive topics. That kind of thing is encouraged. Just don't send us pictures of cute cats with cute typeface saying clever things. That kind of thing is NOT encouraged. No "fail", "owned", "pwned", and other pictures of that sort.

One topic that I would ask people to avoid is strictly-one-sided political arguments. This is not a place for one-sided thought, let alone you trying to convince everyone that your opinions sit on a higher echelon than everyone else's. Obviously, politics are unavoidable in some subjects, but please refrain from using abrasive persuasion techniques.

That should be about it. More aspects of Well Fed Principles will come to be as more artists contribute works. The main thing is to have fun and to be excited about our generation's contributions to the world.
